I'm calling this the "Marcus Smart Sorry About The Last Two Minutes Of The Last Game" Game

75

u/random00 6d ago

7 assists and no turnovers is pretty sick.

38

u/JinterIsComing Celtics 6d ago

And 21 points on 50% shooting from the field including 5/9 from three.

We got essentially zero offense from Al or Grant, but Brown, Smart and TATUM flat out carried us on the offensive end.

6.0k

u/OverusedRedditJoke 7d ago

Giannis' random big game elite free-throw shooting continues to be one of the most intriguing anomalies to me

2.4k

u/WhenItsHalfPastFive Warriors 7d ago

Giannis did everything humanly possible. It's just that Tatum did the same, and he has a better team. The Celtics should be the favorites to win game 7.

1.2k

u/youkrocks [BOS] Jayson Tatum 7d ago

Idk about that. Giannis has clearly figured something out.

It might come down to how many charges the refs decide to call on Sunday.

713

u/jtang600 7d ago

Matters if Middleton comes back. Idk how good he will be after being out for so long but he always decides to become mj against the celtics

454

u/Ru4pigsizedelephants 7d ago

It's the Celtics, if he comes back, he'll go for 60.

It’s not random at this point. He has turned into a Lebron level playoff performer in big spots/close out games. 14/15 at the line and 2/3 from deep in a close out game was eerily similar to Game 6 vs the Suns. No one came along for the ride this time, but he is far and away the best player in the world and has proven that he’s incredibly clutch.

1.7k

u/delusionalnbafan 7d ago

Also turning into LeBron in the sense he’s carrying poor performing players and losing to the Celtics.

Give the credit to Cs defense. It’s no wonder others didn’t show up

116

u/jaleneropepper [BOS] Kendrick Perkins 7d ago

Oddly enough they didn't throw a lot of extra defenders at Giannis tonight (except in the paint), basically the opposite treatment that they gave to KD last round... they mostly stayed home and focused on clamping up everyone else instead.

145

u/AlcoholicInsomniac Pistons 7d ago

Not that odd, that's been their most successful strategy so far this series. Things have started going wrong for them when they add the extra help and Giannis either gets fouled by one of the extra defenders or kicks it out for an open shot.

78

u/LumberjackWeezy Celtics 7d ago

Yup. We're letting Giannis eat because we really can't stop him. If others start heating up then we have a problem.

What a game by Giannis and Tatum.

On the other hand George Hill with 0 points, 0 assists, 1 rebound, 5 PF in 18 minutes, hunted on defense all game long. Why doesn't Bud play Jevon Carter again? He's been excellent for the Bucks IIRC and is a better defender. Or just give Matthews and Connaughton more minutes, they played 27 and 33 tonight, give them both 35+ if you don't trust Carter and play Giannis at PG.

u/iamgarron Celtics 7d ago

Not the only reason..when it got close smart and jaylen both hit big 3s

43

u/The_Dok33 7d ago

JT was probably like "Nope, not again, I ain't done yet". And we really needed that right there.

Wish he'd done just two minutes of that previous game, then the series would have been over today. But ok, NBA brass, broadcasters, and Boston ticket office and concession stands will all be happy about a game 7. And it's great drama

Tatum was unreal. Arguably the best player on the floor from the 2nd quarter onwards. What a response after his rough 4th quarter in game 5.

Also, the Nick Wrong...I mean Nick Wright "curse" continues; he almost guaranteed a Bucks win today but he also said the Bucks were gonna go 12-1 in the eastern conference postseason last month lol. He damn near guaranteed a Mavs game 7 victory so you should be nervous if you're a Mavs fan

I saw a stat in I think game 5 or 4 that said bucks defense has a playoff low 33% shot percentage when the guy shooting is covered. All I could think is that just means they're leaving people wide open lmao

32

u/GeekResponsibly Bucks 7d ago

That graphic was 33% when guarded by Jrue. Bucks drop coverage got roasted this game.

The bucks role players lost them this game, Pat Connaughton was Giannis' best offensive teammate and Jevon Carter outscored George Hill in 1/18th of his minutes. Giannis nearly outscored his entire team.

Shout out celtics legend Derrick White

u/LOTRcrr Celtics 7d ago

He has the best +- in the entire series

17

u/GorillazWelfare Celtics 7d ago

White is the key. He gives solid defense and ball movement. The ball movement gets stagnant when he’s on the bench.

George Hill and Grayson were just woeful tonight. Defensively and Offensively. It's upsetting that we let a 40/20/5+ game go to waste. Insane performance from Tatum and just amazing shotmaking

16

u/smcadams Bucks 7d ago

Gotta give props. Tatum obviously, but Smart and Brown played extremely well too.

Also good lord, the non-Holiday/Pat/...maybe Lopez Bucks need to bow down to Giannis and beg for forgiveness because that was beyond horrendous. Bobby and Grayson specifically.

Either way whoever wins this series is winning the championship, imo.
