He went and fought for a country other than his own, not out of obligation or duty, but because of righteous conviction.

We will remember your name and your deeds.

Slava Ukraini, Slava Heroyim :9000:🇬🇧🇺🇦

481

u/WW_the_Exonian Apr 28 '22

He fought for the freedom of every country from Putin’s tyranny, even though many of them would take such freedom for granted.

251

u/KuroKen70 Apr 28 '22

And this is why he will be remembered.

When the call came to man the paraphets and hold the line, him and every other foreign volunteer said 'here I am, your cause is mine'

It pains me to think of how many more like him have gone before and those who will after, so many who's names and faces we cannot hope to remember, these men and women doing what most of the world thought impossible.

165

u/deluded_akrasia Apr 28 '22

Ukraine has a tradition of honoring their heroes, his and others names will be on monuments and given titles of Heroiv Ukrainy.

58

u/Dreamland_Orchad Apr 28 '22

Awesome the United States and I'm sure 🇬🇧 does the same, and Washington DC 🇺🇸 soldiers names every single last one on walls and different sections from different Wars on granite

18

u/Dr_Frasier_Bane Apr 29 '22

My great uncle's name is on a wall in South Korea by the base in Seoul. It's actually very touching.

This, so much. Most westerners don’t get this. They think it’s about russia vs Ukraine. It’s not. It’s about tyranny vs freedom. This is every free persons war. If Ukraine falls, you are next (whether by putin, ccp, etc)

63

u/lonehorse1 Apr 28 '22

This is something most in the Western Hemisphere understand and why we provide the support however possible.

27

u/skeptical-spectacles Apr 29 '22

Billions of our tax dollars are going to fund Ukraine. Do you think we would do that if we didn’t “get this”? Stop shitting on the west please. Especially in a thread honoring a British man who left his beautiful country and loved ones to defend another country, and lost his life on foreign soil. Disrespectful to say the least.

He is a member of the foreign legion who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of Ukraine.

As a UK citizen, he answered the call of duty to defend Ukraine from the Ruzzian’s attempt to reestablish the Soviet Empire.

A British father has been killed in Ukraine and a second Briton is missing after the men are thought to have joined local forces fighting Russia.

Scott Sibley, a veteran of the British armed forces, has been named as the first UK casualty in Ukraine.

'Scott was a son, father, brother and uncle,' his friend Craig wrote on the page. 'To me he was a friend like no other and the bravest person I've had the pleasure to have known, he was as good as a brother to me.'

His life may have been cut short but he lived to the full and did things the Sibs way, right until the end.'

577

You brave lad. I salute your courage. Words are of little use and I detest that our young are still having to die for narcissistic men who want to control the world. You are a hero and your face will forever be etched in my mind as a reminder of what courage looks like.

90

u/4155190175 Apr 28 '22

“The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it.”

God speed sir, you have brought honor to your name and set an example for the rest of us. We will all mourn your passing as yet one more brave soldier is taken. 😢 Slava Ukraine!

He died fighting for the right side in one of the history-defining events of the century. And he went out of his way to help. Most of us will lead a life of irrelevance and perish forgotten without a trace, but he will live on in history and in contribution. Glory to the British hero from a Russian/Ukrainian!

96

u/OkDuckIt Apr 28 '22

I fully agree. One of my favorite quotes sums it up nicely. "I see the lives for which I lay down my life, peaceful, useful, prosperous and happy. I see that I hold a sanctuary in their hearts, and in the hearts of their descendants, generations hence. It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known."

Scott got the chance to do what most of us thought we were going to do when we joined. I honestly envy him , what a fucking hero.

Rest in peace, warrior. Long live Ukraine. Fuck Vlad.

He died fighting for the right side in one of the history-defining events of the century

He died fighting for Truth, Justice, protection of civilians and to stop one of the last countries that have the ability to stop this. His actions may have contributed to China not going to war over Taiwan.

10

u/srb- Apr 28 '22

This. I really hope this conflict serves as a case study for future dictators (and democracies too) that any military adventurism in this modern world is destined to fail.

5

u/Selfweaver Apr 28 '22

China will study this very closely and hopefully not attack Taiwan.

Reminds of an old norse poem from the Havamal...

Deyr fé deyja frændr deyr sjálfr it sama en orðstírr deyr aldregi hveim er sér góðan getr

Very roughly translates to...

Cattle die, kindred die, we ourselves also die; but the fair fame never dies of him who has earned it. - Havamal Stanza 76

We all die twice. Once when you breathe your last breath, and once again the last time somebody says your name. He will continue to live on because his name will not be forgotten.

THE FINAL INSPECTION

The soldier stood and faced God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining, Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To my Church have you been true?"

The soldier squared his soldiers and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime, When the bills just got too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place, Among the people here. They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand."

There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod. As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgement of his God.

"Step forward now, you soldier, You've borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell."

I’ve decided it’s time to add a few names to the fuck you list, lest we forget how this situation began.

Fuck you trump, for withholding anti Russian defense funds and weapons from Ukraine.

Fuck you republicans, who en mass protected trump for these actions.

Fuck you republicans for being Russian apologists and anti democratic pieces of garbage.
